Galeria Pacifico is having an especially busy November as it approaches it's Twentieth Anniversary on the 28th. Gary Thompson, the owner/director, actually opened the gallery on Nov. 27th, 1987, with a collective exhibition of the works of 27 artists, but he's decided to have the celebration on the 28th to coincide with the weekly Wednesday Art Walk. An application has been made for permission to close Calle Aldama between Calles Juarez and Morelos, so that a street party with live music can occur from 6:00 to 10:00 PM in front of the gallery's second floor location at 174 Aldama. Galeria Pacifico is midway on the street, above La Casa del Habana cigar shop and Jumaica juice bar/cafe, a location it has had since Nov. 1998 but the third downtown location occupied by the gallery over the last 20 years. Watch for announcements if permission is granted for the street party, and come to the exhibit regardless and meet the gallery artists.
Something happening even sooner is the solo exhibition of the gallery's newest locally based painter, Bill White, which will be inaugurated during the Art Walk on Weds., Nov. 21st, 6-10 PM. Bill's large local following knows him as an extremely gifted artist who paints diverse subjects, but this show will have several images of Bill's favorites, Mexican folkloric dancers and charros, the Mexican cowboys. The exhibit will be the gallery's first solo show of the season, and it will also be up during the anniversary party, accompanying a collective of new work by our regular gallery artists. In the middle of Nov., Tuesday 13th, the second season of Galeria Pacifico's complimentary Public Sculpture Walking Tour will begin with its weekly tours at 9:30 AM every Tuesday at the Millennium Sculpture next to the Hotel Rosita at the North end of the Malecon. These popular tours run through April 13th, but will not be held during the Tuesdays of Christmas Day and New Years Day.
In addition to two collective exhibits during the Art Walks of Nov. 7th and 14th, Galeria Pacifico combined efforts with the prestigious Trio Restaurant (Guerero 264 in El Centro) on Nov. 6th to present an exhibit of paintings and sculptures by Brewster Brockmann, one of our area's most popular and talented artists. Although the original presentation occupied both the second and thirds floors of Trio during the cocktail inauguration, a reduced presentation will remain mounted on the second floor through Dec. 6th. A much larger and comprehensive solo exhibition will be held for this best selling artist at Galeria Pacifico with cocktail inaugurations on both Feb. 20th and 27th during the Weds. Art Walks.
